Science Fair

Science Fair!

Welcome to Riverview's fourth annual science fair!!! Below is the information you will need to have a fun learning experience as you create and present your science fair project.

Project Due Date: February 19, 2014 for the 2013-14 school year. Bring your project to school that day. Remember this is a time to show off and explain, not perform, your experiment.

Why: Besides getting to do an awesome science project at home and learn tons of new ideas, there will be a "cool" treat for all students that enter a project.

Information: Contact Mrs. Hansen (4th grade), Mrs. Bundy (5th grade), or Mrs. Thomas (6th grade) for details.

Remember to follow the Scientific Method:
1. Purpose--What do you want to learn?
2. Research--Find out as much about your topic as you can.
3. Hypothesis--Predict the answer to the problem.
4. Experiment--Design a test to confirm or disprove your hypothesis.
5. Analysis--Record what happened during your experiment. Graphs and charts of data.
6. Conclusion--Did the data you collected support or not support your hypothesis?
Note: Scientists do not say in their conclusion that their hypothesis is correct or incorrect.

Good Examples of a Science Fair project:
*They ask a question and answer it with an experiment.
*Can you crack a rock with ice?
*Which material burns the slowest?
*How much sugar is in my drink?

Items not acceptable for a science fair project:
*rock collection
*bringing a volcano and performing the experiment during the science fair

Sample Judging Forms (The District Science Fair is for students in grades 5 & 6 only. It will be held on February 25, 2014 at Landmark High School.)

District Science Fair Information:
This is for 5th and 6th grade students who win their school science fair. Students do NOT need to pay the $10 registration fee. This fee is only for those students that move on to the regional science fair and Nebo School District will cover that fee. The registration forms needed to move on to the district fair were already collected and will be turned in for each student. All students need to do is set up the same project as our school fair and be prepared for the judges questions, see below for samples. Also, a snack would be a good idea. :)
