DECEMBER 4TH - 8TH

Principal Moment

In the days before Pinterest and Youtube there were hotlines.  Crisco had one.  So did Campbell’s and Ocean Spray.  Libby’s, Hershey’s, and Betty Crocker all had them as well.  At the Butterball Turkey Talk Line, anyone could call up twenty-four hours a day and get answers to their questions: “Do I roast the turkey with or without the plastic netting?” “Can I pop popcorn in the turkey’s cavity during the roasting process?” “How do I thaw a fresh turkey?”

Teachers could definitely use a hotline to get them through December, too.  The weeks before Christmas Break at any school feels like using a blender and forgetting to put the lid on.

The Holiday Hotline for Teachers would offer stressed educators live assistance from veteran colleagues on everything from what to bring to the White Elephant exchange to recipe suggestions for the staff Christmas potluck.

HOTLINE: Holiday Hotline. May I help you?

TEACHER: Hi.  My first graders and I disagree on the echo part in “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.”  I say that after singing “They never let poor Rudolph join in any reindeer games,” you shout “Like Monopoly.”  They insist that it’s “Like Football.”  Which is it?

No matter how excited children get and how harried we become, I am glad that Christmas time is here.  We are better throughout the year for having Christmas.

Food Drive-Cans for Kids

Riverview Afterschool program and Riverview Student Council are pleased to announce the eighth annual Food Drive service project.   This service project will run until Wednesday, Dec. 20th, our goal is to BEAT last year’s total of 3,000 cans of food!  The food will be donated to families in our school, Nebo Pantry, and the Utah Food Coalition.

The Nebo Pantry is for homeless and transient students in our district.  The District currently has many students in this situation.

This is a great opportunity to teach our students about service and being grateful for the things we have.  All cans should be brought to your student’s classroom to be counted and recorded.

PLEASE make sure the cans have not EXPIRED.  THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!!  LET’S ALL WORK TOGETHER FOR A GREAT CAUSE!!

Recess Guidance

Cold weather is upon us.  As you know, poor air quality is common during Utah winters and affects health.  Riverview monitors air quality from: http://air.utah.gov/.  We follow the Utah recess guide:  http://health.utah.gov/asthma/pdfs/airquality/recessguidance.pdf

During the cold months we will check air quality levels in the morning.  Students will remain inside when air quality reaches high levels on the air quality index.  If the air quality is good ALL students will be sent outside for recess.  Please make sure your child is coming to school with outdoor clothing during the cold weather months.
