Principal Moment

Last night I participated in a Principal Panel.  The panel was held to help BYU Interns and students teachers as they prepare to interview for upcoming jobs.  It caused me to think about the time when I interviewed for my very first teaching job.  It’s hard to believe that it has been almost thirty years ago.

I can still remember my interview questions: What is your philosophy of education?  What is your classroom management system?  What is your discipline plan?

This was my first interview.  How in the world was I supposed to have an educational philosophy?  I didn’t even know what that meant.

I still remember my responses to those first interview questions too.  Boy, would my answers be different today, if I were asked those same questions.

Question: What are your strengths?  Then: I’m energetic and enthusiastic and extremely hardworking.   Now: I can pull off a Band-Aid so it won’t hurt.

Question: What are your weaknesses?  Then: I need to learn to not work so late at night and on weekends and on all my holidays too.  Now: I steal candy from the treat jar when I am hungry.

Question: What is your view of constructivist education?  Then: I think it is great.  I think it is fantastic.  I believe in it wholeheartedly.  Is there any other way to teach?  Now: What in the world is that?

Question: Why should we hire you?  Then: I like kids.  Now: I like kids.

Nebo Stakeholder Survey

This year's Stakeholder Surveys is open and will close on February 21.  For parents and employees, an email with the link should have been sent to you.  There is also a link on the Nebo District Home Page that is available.  Students, parents and employees can go to this link to complete the survey.  I encourage you to look for the email and/or the link and take the opportunity to give your input.  https://neboschools.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_a3Lrk9lpA9ORMRD.

PTA-White Ribbon Week

On behalf of Riverview, I would like to thank the PTA for a great White Ribbon Week.  Each morning, students received a “power boost” – a positive principle of online behavior.  It became the “password” to participate in fun activities.  Thanks for reinforcing with kids that they have the power to take charge of what they view and share.
