Principal Moment

Did you ever wonder where the Boy Who Cried Wolf went to school?   About ten years ago, he was in my first grade class.  He usually talked with his fingers crossed behind his back.  About once a week, he would walk up to me and point to the sky, or my shoes, or my hair and scream, “Mrs. Killian, look!”  I would look and he would shout, “You looked!”  And laugh.  It was the highlight of his day.

Some days, I would refuse to look and this would drive him crazy.

One day, he came to my desk: “Mrs. Killian, I can’t hear.”

“Go back to your desk.”  Nothing, he just stared at me.

“Mrs. Killian, really, I can’t hear.”

“Please, go back to your desk.”  Again.  Nothing.

“Mrs. Killian, I mean it.  I think there is a pink eraser stuck in my ear.”

I tugged on his left ear lobe and peered in, and sure enough, deep inside I could see a pink pencil top eraser.  He had jammed the eraser end of his pencil into his ear canal, and “pop” off came the eraser.

“Let’s call your dad.”

“Huh?”

“I SAID, LET’S CALL YOUR DAD!”

The next day, a grinning young man returned to school carrying a plastic sandwich bag.  Inside the bag was a pink eraser and a small piece of paper.   He proudly held the plastic bag for all to see.  He announced that after a visit to the Dr.’s office, his dad had taken him to a Chinese restaurant.  He took out the small piece of paper; his fortune from the restaurant.  He read it aloud to the class…”You are a very good listener.”

School Field Trip to Spanish Fork High School

Nebo schools are working to create a culture where students are exposed to the various arts.  This year teachers have been receiving professional development on how to integrate drama into the curriculum.  On Friday, February 9th, Riverview will be walking to Spanish Fork High School to watch the drama department perform Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat.  This field trip will allow students an opportunity to experience the elements of drama they have been learning about this year: character, conflict, story, and script.

Please watch for a field trip permission form to be coming home.  Sign and return if you would like your child to participate.

Nebo Stakeholder Survey

This year's Stakeholder Surveys are scheduled to open beginning February 7 and close on February 21.

For parents and employees, an email with the link will be sent to you.  There will also be a link on the Nebo District Home Page that will be available for the dates listed above.  Students, parents and employees can go to this link to complete the survey.  I encourage you to look for the email and/or the link and take the opportunity to give your input.
