Principal Moment

This week is Riverview Elementary Teacher Appreciation Week.   I truly appreciate our teachers!

Our teachers take slivers out of fingers and bad sports out of kick ball.  They know when a child has gum in his mouth even when he is not chewing.  They have sung “Happy Birthday” 657 times.

They hand over scissors with the handles up.  They can listen to one child talk about his birthday party and another talk about her sleepover and another talk about getting stitches last night-all at the same time.

They fix staplers that won’t staple and zippers that won’t zip.  They hand out papers and pencils and stickers and envelopes for newly pulled teeth.  They know the difference between Austria and Australia.

They plan lessons while showering, driving, eating, and sleeping.  They plan lessons five minutes before the bell rings.  They know what time it is when the big hand is on the twelve and the little hand is on the nine.  They say the r in library. They do not say the w in sword.

They put on Band-Aids and winter coats and puppet shows and Hoe Downs.  They know students will not understand the difference between your and you’re.

They correct pencil grips and spelling mistakes and bad manners.  They push in chairs all the way and push sleeves up while children are painting. They can touch the paper cutter.

They say, “Use two hands!” when kiddos carry their lunch trays.  They say, “Accidents happen,” after kiddos did not use two hands.

They know that colonel is a really hard word to read, and so is doubt and so is gauge.  They know that kids will read started, when it says stared.  They have spelled because and beautiful and friend six million times.

They know when a child does not understand.  They know when a child is telling the truth.  They know when a child has been up too late.  They know when a child needs help finding a friend.

They are our teachers!  Thank you, Riverview Teachers!!

PTA

I would like to personally thank Gary Terranova and the PTA for a FANTASTIC School Carnival!  I truly enjoyed the evening!  What a great event; the smells, the sounds, the sights, the fun!  I appreciate the hours and hours of hard work to help create such a great school community event!

  3. Return registration to the school by Friday - May 18th, 2018

Music Video

This year we are trying to create a great memory…a Riverview music video!  The video will be to the song “The Great Show” from the movie “The Greatest Showman.”    A videographer will be coming on May 21st to help us create a great memory.  The most important ingredient for the memory is enthusiasm.  On Monday, May 21st, students can bring crazy wigs, sun glasses, a stuffed animal (circus),  a silly hat, etc.

Yearbook

The yearbooks have been ordered and are currently being printed.  The PTA have ordered some extra books, BUT not a lot.  If you would still like a book, you may purchase one for $15 through the office.  The books will be delivered the last week of school.

Library Books

All books are expected to be returned to the library no later than Friday, May 11.

To encourage students to bring their books in or pay for lost/damaged books on time, Mrs. Downey and Mrs. Marsigli are holding a little contest.  The first class in each grade to have all of their library books returned or lost/damaged fines paid (meaning main library and take home books) will receive donuts!  That's right, there will be 7 class winners, one from each grade.

In addition to the donuts contest, they are going to be holding a weekly drawing for each grade for the rest of the school year.  This is how it works:

Each week in library if a student does not have any overdue books or returns their overdue books that class period, they will receive a ticket to fill out and place in the drawing basket for their grade. The overdue books include main library and take home library. On Monday mornings, Mrs. Downey will draw a winner from each grade to come down and select a book or reading buddy (stuffed animals that coordinates with a book). They'll be holding this contest each week for the rest of the school year.
