Principal Moment

I remember the very first teacher gift I ever gave.  I was in Kindergarten.  My teacher was Mrs. Bradford.  My mom decorated a brown paper lunch bag and filled it with some peanuts, an orange and Brach’s Christmas ribbon candy.  I added a goody of my own when my mom wasn’t looking.  The next day, when Mrs. Bradford opened her brown Christmas bag she found two snowman candles with their heads starting to melt.

We all have Christmas memories that are forever imprinted in our minds.  We just need to close our eyes and instantly we are back in time.

I have many simple memories; reading all the tags on the gifts under the tree, shaking every package trying to guess what is inside, and counting which sibling had the most gifts under the tree.

Every year – sometime during the holidays – these memories of my childhood cause me to draw a chair up to the hearth of my heart and sit and warm myself for a bit.

I wish the very merriest Christmas.  May you make simple memories that will last a lifetime.

Change Between Remote and At-School Learning

As we approach the end of second term (January 14), parents wanting to change their child’s learning option for third term from Remote Learning to At-School Learning, or vice versa, can do so by submitting their decision in THIS SURVEY between December 10 and January 5.

If parents do not wish to change their student’s learning option at this time, they should not submit the survey.

Once third term begins on January 19, parents will need to stay with their decision until the term ends on March 25. At that time, parents will have another opportunity to make a change. Please contact your school if you have any questions.

¡Gracias!

Learner Powers/Animal Characters

This month we are learning to Think like Ellie Elephant.  Ellie is a cute little elephant.  She was born with big ears and a big brain.   When she goes to school, she uses her ears to listen carefully because she knows that it helps her think.  Ellie knows that once she learns something, she will never forget.  She also knows that thinking and learning is going to help her do hard things; uproot trees, carry heavy bundles on her back, and stop charging lions.  She goes to school, uses her big ears and big brain to learn everything her teacher prepares.  At the end of the day, her mother greets her with a thunderous trumpet and gentle nudge and tells her how proud she is that she is learning to think.  Don’t be afraid to think like Ellie Elephant.

When you think like Ellie Elephant, you…

  • Manage distractions
  • Get lost in the task
  • Break things down
  • Plan and think it through
  • Draw diagrams, write down thoughts or things that help you think
