Riverview Elementary Weekly Newsletter

Dear Parents,

During my nineteen years as a teacher in first grade, I have welcomed 478 students into my classroom.  On Monday, August 19th, 2019 at 8:45 a.m., we will welcome 913 students to Riverview Elementary.

My name is Angie Killian.  I am the principal.  This will be my 30th year working in Nebo School District; nineteen years as a first grade teacher, three years as a facilitator and eight years as a principal.

I like the first day of school.  I like the newness of it all.  The name tags aren’t worn.  The pencils aren’t gnawed nubs. The butcher paper isn’t faded.  The dry erase markers haven’t gone dry.  The playground balls all bounce.  Faces are clean.  Hair is combed.

I know that at 10:00 we will hear, “When’s lunch?”  At 11:30 we will hear, “When do we go home?”

I can’t wait!  It will be a great year.

We are holding an Open House on Friday, August 16th from 2:00 pm-4:00 pm.  Come meet your teacher, rub your palm across the top of your clean desk, show your friends your new haircut and feel the excitement of beginning a new school year.

School begins Monday, August 19th at 8:45 a.m.  School will be dismissed at 2:15 p.m. Early Out Day or Collaboration Day is held each Monday district-wide.  All students will be dismissed 45 minutes early from school on Mondays.

Kindergarten students will begin on Monday, August 26th.  This is also a Monday; school will be dismissed early.  The kindergarten schedule for Mondays will be:

  • AM session – 8:45 am – 11:00 am
  • PM session – 12:00 pm – 2:15 pm

Are you interested in serving on the Riverview School Community Council?

Serving on our School Community Council is a wonderful way for parents and teachers to contribute and help improve academic performance at our school. The school receives an annual dividend from the school trust lands. Our council decides how these funds will be used. Last year our school received $90,130.47 from the School LAND Trust Program. The council reviews and prepares other academic plans for our students each year. All plans are reviewed for final approval by our school board. Councils also act in an advisory capacity to school and school district administrations.

Every public school in Utah has a School Community Council. The councils are made up of school employees who are elected by employees and parents who are elected by parents of students attending the school. Membership terms are for two years. Elections are held at the beginning of each school year. Parent members must have a student attending the school at least one of the two years of their term of service. Employees must be employed by the school district at the school. For more information please visit www.schoollandtrust.org .

If interested, please pick up a School Community Council Candidate Form in the office.  Candidate forms are due to the school principal before: August 30, 2019.  The School Community Council Election will be held: September 3rd – 6th

Enjoy the last few days of summer and see you soon!

Love,

Mrs. Angie Killian, Principal
