Principal Moment

I consider myself a classroom teacher.  I am constantly asking myself: Have I taught them

Have I taught them how to think when the answer isn’t right there?

Have I taught them the joy of learning?

Have I taught them the satisfaction you feel when you do your best?

Have I taught them that it is OK to make mistakes?

Have I taught them that learning is lifelong?

If students have learned these things, then I do not care if they forget when the Pilgrims sailed to the New World or how to spell rendezvous; they will have it covered.

Learner Powers/Animal Characters

This month we are learning to Think like Ellie Elephant.  Ellie is a cute little elephant.  She was born with big ears and a big brain.   When she goes to school, she uses her ears to listen carefully because she knows that it helps her think.  Ellie knows that once she learns something, she will never forget.  She also knows that thinking and learning is going to help her do hard things; uproot trees, carry heavy bundles on her back, and stop charging lions.  She goes to school, uses her big ears and big brain to learn everything her teacher prepares.  At the end of the day, her mother greets her with a thunderous trumpet and gentle nudge and tells her how proud she is that she is learning to think.  Don’t be afraid to think like Ellie Elephant.

When you think like Ellie Elephant, you…

  • Manage distractions
  • Get lost in the task
  • Break things down
  • Plan and think it through
  • Draw diagrams, write down thoughts or things that help you think

Riverview Food and Clothing Drive

Riverview Afterschool and Riverview Student Council are pleased to announce the eleventh annual Food Drive and Giving Tree service project.  This service project will be Nov.18th-Dec 17th. Our goal is to beat last year’s total of 3,000 cans of food!  The food and clothing will be donated to families in our school, Nebo Pantry, and Tabitha’s Way.

The Nebo Pantry is for homeless and transient students in our district.  The District currently has over 1,500 students in this situation.  The Nebo Pantry is in extreme need of the following NEW not USED items:

  • NEW boys & girls underwear kids size 6,7,8,9,10,12,14
  • NEW boys & girls socks sizes 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14
  • NEW or gently used boys’ and girls’ coats sizes 6, 8, 10, 12, 14
  • NEW gloves and hats

Easy to prepare food items: chicken, tuna, canned fruit, fruit snacks, spaghetti O’s, Easy Mac, ramen noodles, granola bars, cereal, and juice boxes

This is a great opportunity to teach our students about larger service and being grateful for the things we have.  All cans should be brought to the student’s classroom.

Please make sure the food is not expired.  Let’s all work together for a great cause.

We would like to thank the Esplin family…73 coats, 19 hats, mittens, gloves donated to benefit students in Nebo School district who need warm winter clothing.

Riverview is a community absolutely devoted to service.  Thank you, for making a difference in the lives of others!

Dress for the Weather

Cool weather will soon be upon us.  Please send your child to school with a jacket for recess.  In order to keep the lost-n-found collection from growing, please label jackets with your child’s name.
