Principal Moment

Every February our school is invited to Spanish Fork High School to watch a theater production.  Some of our students have never seen a live theater production before.  It is a wonderful cultural experience for all of them.

This trip is always extra special because several Riverview Rams are always in the production.

This Wednesday, February 5th, we are going to see The Hobbit.  It is a story of Bilbo Baggins, who would much rather sit in his Cozy Hobbit Hole with a warm drink and plenty of food.  Instead, he finds himself on a magical journey.  He will travel over freezing mountains and through a frightening forest, meeting all kinds of creatures.

The play sounds similar to our journey to the high school; we will be traveling on freezing sidewalks and through gusty winds.  If not dressed appropriately, I am sure that many on our little ones will be wishing they were sitting in their cozy homes with a warm hot chocolate.  Please send your child to school with warm clothing for our trek to the high school on Wednesday.

We will leave immediately following the morning announcements.  The play is to begin as soon as we are all seated.  The duration is about 1 ½ hours.  Immediately following the play, we will walk back to the school.  Lunch will be served once we return to Riverview.

Nebo Stakeholder Survey

Each parent and employee in Nebo School District should have received an email with the link to the Stakeholder Survey.  There is also a link on the Nebo District Home Page.  Students, parents and employees can go to this link to complete the survey.  I encourage you to look for the email and/or the link and take the opportunity to give your input.  https://neboschools.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_aWql7NIbl2CmfTn

Riverview Learning Pit/Learner Powers

Question is our February Learning Power.  Meet Debbie Dolphin. Debbie is very happy and playful and loves living in the ocean. She is a quizzical creature who asks a lot of questions. The ocean is a beautiful home and there is much to see and explore. Debbie swims to the bottom of the ocean floor and asks the crabs “How many legs do you have?”, “Why do crabs have teeth in their stomachs?” Debbie dips and dives and bumps into a turtle and asks: “Why do you have a shell?”. She swims into the oyster beds and asks the sleepy oysters, “How long does it take to make a pearl?” Debbie comes upon an octopus hiding beneath the rocks and asks, “Why do you have three hearts and squirt ink?” By asking questions, Debbie soon learns which caves are safe to explore, where to find the best waves, which shrimp and fish taste delicious, how to swim fast and leap high from the ocean water. There is so much to learn. Ask questions like Debbie Dolphin.

When you Question like Debbie Dolphin, you…

  • Ask questions
  • Notice things
  • Look for patterns and connections
  • Problem solve
  • Think of possible reasons
  • Research
  • Ask “What if...?”
