Riverview Elementary Weekly Newsletter

Principal Moment

I have been an educator for thirty-one years.  Thirty-one years of experience couldn’t have prepared me – or any educator – for COVID.  But one thing still remains the same: the kids.

They will ask for an ice pack when they don’t really need it.

When they run to tell you that they just kicked the ball over the fence or on the roof, I can see the smile in their eyes and voice.

They blow bubbles in the milk carton.  They squeeze the juice box.

They sharpen a pencil to get the world’s smallest pencil.

When they like your outfit, they tell you.  When they don’t like your outfit, they tell you.  When you wear the same outfit in one week, they tell you.

It’s a great year!

Kindergarten Parking Lot

Riverview still remains the largest elementary is the district.  Our parking lots are the only place where drivers and students share the same area of the roadway.

We need your help to keep the school and your children safe. EVERY child’s safety is important to us. It remains our highest priority.

We ask all to be aware of the yellow walking/bike path that is painted around the perimeter of the West Parking lot by the Kindergarten.  We have cars parking in the walking path.  This creates a dangerous situation for children.

We strongly encourage parents to park in sports park lot across from the school and we will help them safely walk to your car.

Thank you for being aware of students and each other in order to create a safe school for our community.

Early Release

All students in Nebo School District will be dismissed early on Monday, September 21st for teacher development.   There will be no Afternoon Kindergarten session.   Lunch will be served beginning at 10:10 am.   Buses will run regular routes.

Information About Free Breakfast/lunches for All Nebo Students!

Nebo School District is committed to providing our students and school communities with nutritious and great-tasting meals.  To that end, Nebo School District will be switching to an “Open Restricted Meal Program.” Under this program, breakfast and lunch are available for free to all students enrolled in Nebo School District, including remote learners.

If your student is a remote learner and you want to participate, please call Riverview at 801-798-4050 each morning before 9 a.m. to place your order. Meals will be available for pick up in the front office 30 minutes before your school’s scheduled lunch. A 15-minute time frame has been allotted for meal pick up.

This program is scheduled to run through December 2020, or until funding is exhausted. We will send updates as developments occur.

School Pictures

  •  Picture Day is Friday, October 2nd, 2020.  Flyer will be sent home on September 25th.
  • Picture retake/Make-Up day is Thursday, November 12th.

Reflections

Dear Riverview families,

We are so excited that all students have the ability to enter Reflections this year . . . online! This means that even students who have chosen the online school option can participate, if they would normally attend Riverview. (Homeschooled students not choosing the district's online option are unfortunately not eligible.)

The deadline for entries is October 7th!

Please watch this six-minute video to learn about what Reflections is, what the categories are, what the rules are, and how to enter.

The URL given in the video is slightly incorrect. The correct one is:

http://utahpta.org/reflections-online

It should be fairly straightforward, but if you have any problems or questions, please email me, Ruth Owen, at riverviewreflections [at] gmail.com (riverviewreflections[at]gmail[dot]com).

A couple of things the video didn't say:

1. Sixth graders who enter in the music composition category must include a transcription of their music, whether handwritten or using music transcription software. I recommend flat.io.

2. Artwork, photography, video, etc., featuring copyrighted material is not allowed. So please do not enter paintings of Iron Man, photos of an Elsa doll, or Lego creations of Minecraft animals or characters. They will be disqualified. Every year we have a few, so I want to be super clear so we don't have any disappointed kids.

I can't wait to see what creative projects your kids will submit. Reflections is such a neat program.

And remember, everyone who enters gets a small prize, and the winners get trophies and the chance to move on to Region and possibly further!

Best of luck!
