Meeting Officer Grover

Submitted by alyssa.mathis on

Riverview third graders and sixth graders met Officer Cory Grover after reading and discussing the story “Aero and Officer Mike.”  Officer Grover brought his police dog and talked with the students about the training that he and his dog went through together. Officer Grover explained how his police dog is a loyal partner and they work together every day.  Students had a great time making connections from reading "Aero and Officer Mike" and meeting Officer Grover and his police dog.  Thank you for your service!

White Ribbon Week

Submitted by angela.killian on

White Ribbon Week is scheduled for January 23rd - 27th. Each day we will focus on a different way we can be smart and safe online.  There will be a dress-up theme to emphasize the idea for each day.  Students can earn tickets for prize drawings at the end of the week by dressing up, wearing their white bracelet each day (handed out on Monday), writing an essay ( grades 3-6) or coloring a picture (grades K-2), and signing the pledge.

Second Graders Wish Everyone A "Nice, Nice Christmas"

Submitted by alyssa.mathis on

Second graders performed their Christmas program for Riverview students and parents.  The songs were fun to learn and were all about having a “Nice, nice, Christmas.”  Students had so much fun singing about decorating trees, and asking Santa for what they wished for.  The students grooved to the music as they sang about reindeer dancing on their days off from work.  The second grade provided fun entertainment for everyone!

Christmas Sing-A-Long

Submitted by alyssa.mathis on

Riverview students got ready for the Christmas break by having a school wide Christmas Sing-A-Long. Mrs. Killian led the school in Christmas songs.  Santa Claus made a special visit to Riverview. All of the students did a great job and it really got everyone in the Christmas spirit.

The Best Way to Spread Christmas Cheer...

Submitted by angela.killian on

Riverview Elementary has been involved in a very successful service project!  Service is a great opportunity to teach students about being grateful for the things we have.  We want to celebrate being thoughtful of others by having a Christmas Kick-Off Week.

  • Dec. 19th – Wear Read & Green to school
  • Dec. 20th – Wear an ugly Christmas sweater
  • Dec. 21st – Wear a Christmas hat
  • Dec. 22nd – Prepare for a ‘Long Winter’s Nap’ – wear pajamas.  School Christmas sing-a-long at 9:30.

Thank You to Nebo Foundation!

Nebo Foundation approved our grant of $1,000 and we are expanding our guided reading library with non-fiction short reads for readers from level A to Z.  This purchase helps us continue our aim of schooling at Riverview..."for every student to gain at least a year's worth of learning for a year's input."

Short-reads allow teachers to have a small-group lesson that can be completed in 20 min. with the focus on understanding text complexity.

Thank you Nebo Foundation for your generous support of our efforts!
