Kade Hall a 4th grader at our school showed what being determined really looks like on Saturday when he ran with his dad the full 26.2 miles in the St. George Marathon! His determination in school and out of school is inspiring and proved to all of us we can do anything if we put our minds to it! He was the youngest of thousands to run that race and we all couldn't be prouder!! Way to go Kade!

Why will kids ask ten times when recess is but then want to stay in for the whole break to organize markers?
Why do kids forget where to indent in a letter but remember the name of my guinea pig I had when I was in the third grade, and why my dad washed my mouth out with soap when I was eight?
Why do kids write “THE END” so big?
Why do kids know precisely how many days, hours, and minutes are left till their birthdays but still ask, “When’s lunch?”

When I was a student in elementary school, I remember a teacher who had minimal patience when it came to teaching students new things. He would get frustrated if students didn't 'get it' after one lesson. He thought we weren't really trying.
Teachers ask students to learn some pretty difficult concepts; how to read, multiply, and become persuasive writers.…I mean, why didn’t anyone tell me before I had children that I would have to live my homework nightmares all over again?

This year I am celebrating my thirtieth year in education.
You know, kids today are not different than the kids I taught when I first started. The gadgets they play with have changed, not the children. Kids are kids are kids.
They will ask for an ice pack when they don’t really need it. They will always ask if they can go to the office for more ice once the first bag of ice melts.
When your stomach growls, they will tell you.

Some things we have to relearn at the start of each school year… how to turn a jump rope, how to cut straight with a paper cutter, how to unjam the copier, and how to say, “Walk!” really loud. We also have to relearn how to get students to form straight lines, how to tug on the screen so it goes up on the first try, how to tell if a child is feeling sick, and how to tell teacher jokes. It’s good to be back. A life amongst students is a rich life!

Every year I forget what it’s like to start a school year all over again. The first day of school comes, and BAM!
Today was a good day as far as first days of school go. We didn’t have anyone walk home after morning recess. We didn’t have anyone cry; not even the teachers. It was a great day!
Dear Parents,
During my nineteen years as a teacher in first grade, I have welcomed 478 students into my classroom. On Monday, August 19th, 2019 at 8:45 a.m., we will welcome 913 students to Riverview Elementary.
My name is Angie Killian. I am the principal. This will be my 30th year working in Nebo School District; nineteen years as a first grade teacher, three years as a facilitator and eight years as a principal.

The last month of school is sooo busy, teachers sometimes wish they could fast-forward to the last day of school. When the last day comes, they want to sloooowww it down.
This year on the last day of school, we will try to make it like any other day. We will talk to students in the halls; we will laugh at jokes we have heard twenty times, we will ask what colleagues and kiddos have planned for the summer.

It is the time of year teachers need to put on their hardhats, tie yellow caution tape across their doors, and lay out orange cones in the halls. They will need to stand guard at the garbage cans, handing back papers that forgot where the ‘finished’ work basket is.

Today is National Secretary Day. No one is more cherished in the world than someone who lightens the burden of another. Mrs. Tricia Nielson and Mrs. Aubree Barnum are our school secretaries and they are truly cherished. What would we do without our secretaries? They are the backbone of the school.
