Riverview Elementary 2nd Grade Teachers Christy Nielson and Karen Grant were privileged to have guests from their local community and BYU, teach the students about some of  the indigenous peoples in North America.  Brenda Beyal (Director of the Native American Curriculum Initiative for BYU) and Shoshana Begay (Title XI Coordinator for the Nebo Indian Education Program) paired with Rachel Marie Kimball and Mrs. Nielson to present lessons to a 2nd grade class which used movement and storytelling to learn about the Navajo and Northern Shoshone cultures.  Brenda and Shoshona invited Principal Angela Killian and the students to participate in a Round Dance, also known as the Friendship Dance.  Students and adults joined hands, looked into each other's eyes and made connections to each other as they learned about the traditions of those whose ancestral land their school sits upon.  What a wonderful opportunity to use the arts to connect to the continual learning and loving happening in this school's community!
