Welcome back to school

Dear Riverview Families,

I want to officially welcome you to the 2021-2022 school year!  We are so excited to start stronger than ever this year!  We have been very busy throughout this summer. Everything is progressing smoothly to a great opening of school on Wednesday, August 18, 2021All kindergarten students begin on Wednesday, August 25th.

I am privileged to have the opportunity to serve as your Principal and I feel honored to work with our highly qualified and dedicated staff, our wonderful students, and all of the supportive parents.  I am a lifelong educator and am committed to students and families as well as a love for learning.

I thought you would enjoy a few simple ideas that might help you and your family gear up for a great school year (they were taken from “Parents Make a Difference!” magazine):

  • Schedule adequate time for homework, play, clubs, sports, and practice.
  • Scale back TV time.
  • Establish bed times for school nights.
  • Create a car pool, if possible.
  • Have a backup plan.  Find another parent who will exchange school pickup favors in case you get ill or delayed.
  • Spruce up a student space for your child(ren).  Include pens, pencils, and other needed supplies.
  • Get children in the habit of getting ready the night before school.  Set out clothes, pack lunch, and put the backpack by the front door.

I trust these few hints will help, and I hope this will be one of the best years ever!  You can depend on us to do all that we can to be cooperative, helpful, and inspiring.

Introduction of our new teachers – Each year we work with new interns through the BYU Partnership and SUU.  This year we are excited to begin the new year with Mrs. Melissa Nuttall in 5th grade, Mrs. Kaitlin Fielding in 3rd grade, and Mrs. Kamryn Frame in 1st grade.  We are also excited to have on board Mrs. Christina Peterson and Mrs. Nikelle Sybrowsky in our special education department.  We are fortunate to have these new teachers join our Riverview family.

I would like to introduce Mrs. Hailey Lubain as our PTA President this year!  She is a creative problem-solver with a focus that is entirely on students - she also has a great sense of humor!

Last year we said goodbye to many dear teachers.  This summer, we are saying goodbye to Mr. Trevor Nelson, our computer planning technician.  He is leaving us to pursue his career.  We are also saying goodbye to Mr. Bryce Thacker, a student sweeper who helped keep our school clean during a year when we sanitized everything!  We will announce their replacements in the coming weeks.

I’d like to invite you to soon visit our school’s website. This will serve as a resource tool for all upcoming events, student/parent handbook, important reminders and you can catch up with school news.  You can also like our Instagram and Facebook to get up-to-date information as it happens.  We encourage our entire Riverview community to demonstrate our pride by continuing to wear our school colors on Fridays! We will incorporate many other school spirit events, and we will continue to use iCampus for quickly getting out information of upcoming events or emergencies.

In closing, please enjoy the remaining days of summer. I look forward to seeing many new faces on our first day of school. Please join us for our Open House on Tuesday, August 17th, 2021 from 2:30 until 4:00.  Our vision of success begins August 18, 2021.

Warmly,

Mrs. Angie Killian

Riverview Elementary Principal
