Principal Moment

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, Riverview kiddos have been writing what they are thankful for.  After spending time with Riverview students, I have come up with an unconventional gratitude list.

  1. Smiles-I am thankful that I can visually see the happiness that happens every day.   Smiles change moods.  I am grateful to see the beauty of a child’s smile.
  2. Teeth-Dentist appointments, orthodontist appointments, lost teeth, loose teeth…all are regular occurrences at school.  I am grateful for my choppers.
  3. Pizza  and Teriyaki Chicken-The lunch room is full of happy diners on pizza and Teriyaki Chicken day.
  4. Hugs-A life without hugs would be a lonely life to me.
  5. Laughter-It cures heavy hearts and tired minds and sick bodies.  It is contagious and happiness-inducing.  I recommend it.  Lots of it.
  6. You-I am grateful for this community.  Riverview is a great place to learn and grow and seek inspiration and motivation and acceptance and love.

I want to wish all Happy Thanksgiving!  There will be no school Nov. 27th – 29th.

Learner Powers/Animal Characters

This month we are learning to connect like Aiden Ant.    Aiden is a tiny insect, but he is a truly amazing creature. Aiden is proud to be an ant because he knows that ants have been around for 100 million years. He knows that he has great, great, great, great, grandfathers and grandmothers that were crawling around under the dinosaurs. Ants have been able to survive so long because of how they connect with other ants. Aiden lives and works together in a group called a colony. Thousands of ants live in Aiden’s colony. Aiden works together with the other ants. Aiden may be small, but when connecting with all the other ants in his colony they can do awesome things. Thousands or millions of ants connecting and working together can build bridges or float across rivers. So, the next time you come across an ant, stop and watch or, better yet, connect with others like Aiden Ant. When you understand what tiny creatures are capable of, you’ll understand just how awesome you may become when you connect.

When you Connect like Aiden Ant, you...

  •  Learn as a team
  • Co-operate with other learners
  • Listen to others
  • Say when you don’t understand
  • Are kind when you disagree
  • Explain things to help others
  • Remember that everyone has something to contribute
  • Are tolerant

Riverview Food and Clothing Drive

Riverview Afterschool and Riverview Student Council are pleased to announce the eleventh annual Food Drive and Giving Tree service project.  This service project will be Nov.18th-Dec 17th. Our goal is to beat last year’s total of 3,000 cans of food!  The food and clothing will be donated to families in our school, Nebo Pantry, and Tabitha’s Way.

The Nebo Pantry is for homeless and transient students in our district.  The District currently has over 1,500 students in this situation.  The Nebo Pantry is in extreme need of the following NEW not USED items:

  • NEW boys & girls underwear kids size 6,7,8,9,10,12,14
  • NEW boys & girls socks sizes 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14
  • NEW or gently used boys’ and girls’ coats sizes 6, 8, 10, 12, 14
  • NEW gloves and hats

Easy to prepare food items: chicken, tuna, canned fruit, fruit snacks, spaghetti O’s, Easy Mac, ramen noodles, granola bars, cereal, and juice boxes

This is a great opportunity to teach our students about larger service and being grateful for the things we have. All cans should be brought to the student’s classroom.

Please make sure the food is not expired.  Let’s all work together for a great cause.

Dress for the Weather

Cool weather will soon be upon us.  Please send your child to school with a jacket for recess.  In order to keep the lost-n-found collection from growing, please label jackets with your child’s name.

Riverview Cold Weather Procedures

Riverview checks http://air.utah.gov/currentconditions.php?id=np each morning.  The cold weather procedures will be as follows:

  • All children will be expected to go out for recess except in extreme weather conditions; temperatures below 20 degrees, rain, snow, and unhealthy air inversions.  We will check air quality daily.
  •  If a child cannot participate in recess for health reasons, please have parents send a note.  If it is a prolonged indoor stay (longer than 3 days) please send a note from the doctor.
  • When the temperature is below 20 degrees, all students will remain inside.
  • In the event of a major weather event; severe storm, power outage, etc., the District’s Blackboard Communication system will be used to notify parents.
