Orchestra

Submitted by amy.nelson on

Our school's orchestra performed for us last Thursday.  Mrs. Wangsgard did such a fantastic job helping these students learn their instruments and perform songs together as a group.  Some of the songs that required plucking the strings really caught the ears of the students!  Some of the orchestra members played familiar tunes that almost every student knew.  One was the theme song from Star Wars!

Submitted by amy.nelson on

Charles Thorpe, currently teaching 4th grade at Riverview, is retiring this year!  He has been an educator in the classroom for 38 years.  He has touched the lives of so many students throughout the years, including some of the staff here at Riverview. There is a celebration today at the school's library in his behalf.

Plant A Tree

Submitted by amy.nelson on

4th graders experienced an Arbor Day to remember last week.  Students were able to share the importance of trees in the community and neighborhood.  They were able to help plant trees and participate with Spanish Fork in maintaining "Tree City" as a status symbol for the city.  Riverview 4th graders are happy to support that!

Crystal Apple Award

Submitted by amy.nelson on

Horace Mann presents the Crystal Apple Award to a teacher each year.  The recipient is chosen by the faculty and peers.  This year's award goes to Amy Jensen!  Mrs. Jensen teaches first grade and loves it!  Her team member Michele LemMon gave tribute to her Wednesday afternoon.  She said that Mrs. Jensen is the most willing, helpful, excited teacher she thinks she has ever met, and that she absolutely loves first grade!  We are very lucky at Riverview to have Mrs. Jensen here.  Congratulations Mrs. Jensen!

5th graders at Riverview graduated from their D.A.R.E (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) program this past week!  This 16-week course taught the students skills to keep them safe from drugs, violence, unhealthy peer pressure, and gang activity. Some of the students shared their essays, and some were our "Super Students".

Congratulations D.A.R.E. graduates!

Riverview Art Show!

Submitted by amy.nelson on

Riverview hosted another wonderful art show tonight in conjunction with Family Night at the book fair.  Students from all grades entered works of art.  The gym was full of pieces that showed abilities of all kinds.  This is such a fun way to show off the skill and fun that goes into learning about and being artists.

CAST out Bullying

Submitted by amy.nelson on

The Student Council at Riverview presented an assembly to remind us about our No Bully Policy.  In this assembly, the cast taught us the acronym CAST, in dealing with bullying should it happen.

C stands for "Be Calm and Confident"  A stand for "Walk Away and Ignore"  S stands for " Tell them to Stop" and T stands for "Tell a Trusted Adult". After the assembly, the council members hung posters throughout the school and classrooms to help us remember.

If we see or experience bullying, we can take these steps to help stop it.  Great job Student Council!

Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss

Submitted by amy.nelson on

Mrs. Nielson's class had a great time celebrating Dr. Seuss' birthday by sporting their new 'nightshirts' for "I Am Not Going to Get Up Today."  All of these little 'Things' participated in Read Across America at school.  Don't they look wonderful?
